Defense contractors and the suppliers in their chain
AI for Defense
Proposal support, CMMC documentation and technical manual search for contractors and their suppliers, with controlled data on approved systems only.
Defense contractors write proposals, maintain compliance evidence and search technical manuals, all of it under data handling rules that most AI tools do not meet. The engagement classifies data before choosing a model, so the hosting decision is settled before the first pilot.
Where the hours go
Work that AI can carry.
- 01 Proposal and RFP response support
Past performance, compliance matrices and technical volumes drafted from the company's library for the capture team.
- 02 Compliance documentation for CMMC
System security plans, policies and evidence drafted and kept current against the practice list.
- 03 Technical manual search
The procedure, the part or the tolerance found across manuals and drawings by the question asked.
- 04 Contract deliverable tracking
CDRLs, due dates and status pulled into one list with the next action named.
What has to hold
The rules an engagement respects.
- CUI and ITAR handling
Controlled unclassified information and export-controlled technical data cannot enter a tool that is not authorized to hold them.
- FedRAMP-authorized or on-premise models only for controlled data
The model choice follows the data classification, not the other way round.
- CMMC 2.0
The engagement itself is a change to the environment and has to be documented against the relevant practices.
- Export control on model outputs
A model that has read controlled data can produce controlled output, and that output has the same handling rules.
How an engagement runs here
The four steps, as they run in defense.
- 01 Assess
The assessment classifies the data in scope first, then inventories the systems and the tools employees already use on their own.
AI Readiness Assessment - 02 Plan
The roadmap separates uncontrolled work such as proposal boilerplate from controlled work, and sets the hosting requirement for each.
Strategy and Roadmap - 03 Build
The build runs on FedRAMP-authorized or on-premise infrastructure wherever controlled data is in scope, with the architecture documented for the assessor.
Implementation - 04 Train
Training covers marking, handling and the policy on which tools may hold which data, and the policy is written to be shown to a prime contractor.
Training and Change Management
Start with the assessment.
An inventory of your systems, data and rules, interviews with your department leads, and a report that says what to do first in defense.
