Sponsors and their portfolio companies

AI for Private Equity

Deal work, diligence and portfolio reporting, with the confidentiality walls that each fund and each portfolio company require.

A deal team runs on documents that arrive in volume and on a deadline. The same firm then has to report upward to limited partners and across to portfolio companies, each with its own systems. AI helps with the reading and the first drafts, as long as the walls between deals and between companies hold.

Where the hours go

Work that AI can carry.

  1. 01
    Deal screening from inbound materials

A CIM, a teaser and a data room index summarized against the fund's thesis before an associate spends a day on them.

  2. 02
    Data room review in diligence

Contracts, customer lists and financial schedules read for the terms and exceptions the deal team has asked about.

  3. 03
    Portfolio company reporting consolidation

Monthly packages from each company brought into one format with the variances flagged.

  4. 04
    LP reporting drafts

Quarterly letters and capital account notes drafted from the fund's own numbers for a partner to edit.

  5. 05
    Value-creation playbook rollout

The same operating playbook adapted and delivered across portfolio companies, with each company's data kept apart.

What has to hold

The rules an engagement respects.

  • Material non-public information

Anything learned in a deal stays inside the deal team, and the tools used have to respect that boundary.

  • Confidentiality agreements per deal

Each NDA has its own terms on who may see what, and an AI tool is a party to that like any other vendor.

  • Segregation between portfolio companies

A model that has read one company's data must not answer questions about another.

  • LP reporting accuracy

Every number in a letter to limited partners is checked by a person before it leaves the firm.

How an engagement runs here

The four steps, as they run in private equity.

  1. 01 Assess

The assessment maps where deal data sits today, which tools the deal team already uses on their own, and what each NDA permits.

    AI Readiness Assessment
  2. 02 Plan

The roadmap picks a first workflow at the fund or at one portfolio company and sets the confidentiality controls before any data moves.

    Strategy and Roadmap
  3. 03 Build

The build runs with deal-level access controls and a review step before any output reaches an investment committee or a limited partner.

    Implementation
  4. 04 Train

Training covers the deal team and the portfolio company leaders who will carry the playbook, with a policy that an LP can read.

    Training and Change Management

Start with the assessment.

An inventory of your systems, data and rules, interviews with your department leads, and a report that says what to do first in private equity.
